October 30, 2009 Kailua Kona, HI - With a commitment to community service, Jack's Diving Locker once again presented at an all day seminar called GEMS – Girls Exploring Math and Science. GEMS is an island wide event sponsored by the American Association of University Women. Close to 300 fifth grade girls from the Big Island of Hawaii converged at the Keauhou Beach Hotel in Kona to participate in this annual event. The goal of the event is to excite and engage girls in math and science before they enter middle school when their interest in these subjects often times begins to fade. By interacting with women with careers in the fields of math and science, these girls may be inspired to pursue education and employment in fields that they enjoy that are currently male dominated.
